Union Labour Ministry launches first All India Domestic Workers Survey
22 November 2021: The Union Ministry of Labour and Employment launched the first All India Domestic Workers Survey to be conducted by the Labour Bureau with results expected within a year. The survey aims to find out the magnitude of domestic workers, their prevailing employment and living conditions, and other socio-economic information of domestic workers and their Household workers.
Jharkhand: State govt set to sign MoU with BRO, Ladakh govt for safety of its contractual workers
22 November 2021: A Memorandum of Understanding regarding the safety of Jharkhand’s migrant contractual workers is going to be signed between Jharkhand, UT of Ladakh and the Border Roads Organisation (BRO). It will establish a Safe and Responsible Migration Centre (SRMC) in Ladakh for around 18,000 migrant workers engaged in various BRO projects every year. It aims to improve the employment conditions, safety and remuneration of workers, and to do away with local middlemen by making BRO the sole recruiting agent.
Tamil Nadu: OMC signs MoU with Kuwait company for employment of domestic workers
21 November 2021: The Overseas Manpower Corporation (OMC) of the state labour department has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Kuwait Gate Foundation for recruitment of 500 maids in Kuwait. The agency aims to ensure safe migration and working conditions for people migrating abroad for work.
Implementation of Labour Codes inches closer as 9 states/UTs complete rule-making process
11 November 2021: As many as Nine states/UTs have finalised draft notifications for the rules of all four Labour Codes – Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir. All in all, 21 states have completed the rule-making process for the Wage Code, 18 have done so for the IR Code, 14 for the Social Security Code and 10 for the OSH Code.
Delhi: Govt hikes minimum wage by paltry amount as workers strike approaches
09 November 2021: The Delhi govt revised the Dearness Allowance (DA) of the minimum wage by less than 1% amid skyrocketing price-rise of essential commodities. Meanwhile, trade unions called a one-day general strike in the National Capital demanding Rs. 26,000 as minimum the wage, monthly financial assistance of Rs. 7,500 to unorganised sector workers and the formation of a Wage Revision Board.
Punjab: Govt regularises 36,000 employees, hikes minimum wage after workers’ struggle
09 November 2021: Relentless struggle by contractual government employees has forced the Punjab government to regularise 36,000 employees with 10 years of service on contract, ad hoc, work-charged, daily wages and temporary basis in different government departments. It also hiked the minimum wage by Rs. 415.89 with effective retrospectively from March 1, 2020.
NCSK urges Puducherry to constitute State-level Commission for Safai Karamcharis
06 November 2021: Chairman of the National Commission for Safai Karamcharis (NCSK), M Venkatesan urged the Chief Minister of Puducherry to constitute a State-level Commission for Safai Karamcharis. The Chairman also sought the creation of a Safai Karamcharis Finance and Development Corporation.
