Telangana: Doctors in govt hospitals go on strike across the state, win hike in stipends

27 May 2021: Resident senior and junior doctors working in government hospitals went on strike throughout the state demanding hiked stipends. The government agreed to raise stipends for interns, post-graduate students and senior residents, and to allocate beds for doctors and their family members in NIMS Hyderabad.

26 May 2021: Central Trade Unions and Farmers’ Unions observed 26 May as Black Day for Indian Democracy as Modi government completed 7 years in power. They demanded free vaccination for all, free ration and Rs 7,500 per month for the poor, repealing the three farm laws, implementation of minimum support price (MSP) for crops, and the withdrawal of the four labour codes.

Madhya Pradesh: Thousands of contractual health workers go on indefinite strike, demand regularisation

24 May 2021: Around 19,000 contractual healthcare workers in Madhya Pradesh went on an indefinite strike for various demands including pay parity with regular employees. They also demanded that the government re-employ 2,500 workers that it had outsourced to a private agency. The government ignored multiple memorandums submitted by the workers which forced them to strike work.

ASHA workers go on country-wide strike demanding pending wages, protective gear and monthly risk allowance

24 May 2021: Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) workers went on a one-day strike at sub-health centres (sub-centres) and primary health centres (PHCs) across the country demanding payment of pending wages, provision of personal protective equipment (PPE) kits and a monthly risk allowance for themselves.

Tamil Nadu: Contract healthcare workers at CMCH strike work, demand regularisation

17 May 2021: Contract healthcare workers at Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) went on strike and staged a protest outside the Collectorate demanding permanent appointments. The hospital management declined their demand on the basis that they were employed by an agency and not by the hospital.

Gujarat: Doctors and Nurses go on strike across GMERS Medical Colleges seeking implementation of long-pending demands

12 May 2021: Doctors and nurses at GMERS Medical Colleges across the state went on strike seeking the implementation of various long-pending demands. They are demanding a proper promotion policy, govt contribution to Provident Fund, payment of allowances and arrears as per Seventh Pay Commission, ending the contractual system and outsourcing, filling vacancies and increasing the strength of permanent staff.
