Bank employees seal Collective Bargaining Agreement at 15% hike over the next 5 years
23 July 2020: Indian Bank Association (IBA) and United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) signed a Collective Bargaining agreement on 23 July 2020 to hike the salary by 15% for the 5-year period between 2017 and 2022. The move will impact 8.5 lakh bank employees across around 37 banks including public, private and foreign banks, applicable retrospectively from November 2017. However, the CBA has for the first time included performance linked incentives for bank employees.
Mining workers call for 1-day strike against divestment of Coal India Limited
15 July 2020: Coal India worker unions affiliated to 5 central trade unions have decided to go on 1-day strike on August 18 against the proposed divestment of Coal India Limited, a Public Service Undertaking.
Telangana: Nurses strike work against pay disparity
12 July 2020: Over 200 nurses at the Gandhi Hospital, Hyderabad went on strike demanding equal pay for equal work. Telangana government has recently hired nurses for Rs.28,000 per month for COVID-19 duty while the old workers are still being paid Rs.17,500 per month. Nurses are demanding that their pay be revised to match that of the new recruits.
Journalist unions observe Press Rights Day against illegal lay offs
9 July 2020: Journalist unions observed Press Rights Day on 9 July 2020 against forced leave without pay, compulsory pay cuts and illegal lay offs of thousands of journalist by several media houses. The day was observed by media professionals all over the country. Over 30,000 jobs are at stake as companies exploit the lockdown to cut down on labour costs.
Kerala: Contract Air India workers at Trivandrum Airport continue strike against lay offs
03 July 2020: The confederation of Trivandrum Airport casual workers trade unions has decided to continue the token strike at the airport which began on Wednesday against the layoff of ground handling staff by Air India SATS.
The casual labourers under the trade unions are staging protests at the airport. The agitators alleged that termination notices were issued to around 100 staff during lockdown ignoring their proposal for salary cuts.
