Construction
03 April: Shivanna (60) died after he fell from an under-construction building at Somanathnagar in Mysuru while working.
06 April: Dhulia Mallick was buried to death, and four others rescued from a well after a mudslide trapped them while they were installing concrete rings inside it in Alatuma village in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district.
08 April: Sanjay Vishwakarma (26) fell to his death while working on the 12th floor at an under-construction building in Ambernath. Police booked the contractor and builder under IPC sections 304 (A) (negligence causing death) and 34 (common intention) because they failed to provide any safety equipment to the worker.
10 April: Panne Lal (40) died after falling from an under-construction bridge near Jasola in southeast Delhi’s Sarita Vihar. Investigation revealed that the contractor hadn’t fenced or barricaded the stairs of the bridge, and no guard had been deployed for the safety of workers. Police registered a case against the contractor.
14 April: Naeem (38), Faazil (30) and Rizvan (30) were killed after an under-construction wall collapsed on them. Police booked the owner of the premises under Section 304 of Indian Penal Code.
15 April: A 13-year-old boy was electrocuted to death after coming in contact with a live-wire while working at a construction site in Maharashtra’s Bhiwandi. Police booked the contractor under IPC section 304-A (causing death by negligence) and the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act.
16 April: Mansukh Bhai (45), Ranchod Prajapati (50) and Bhagwan Jadhav, (55) were buried to death, and four others were injured after a compound wall collapsed while undergoing repair at a powerloom factory in Maharashtra’s Bhiwandi town.
Manufacturing
05 April: Sagar, Santosh, Mustaqin, Peechu and Imtiaz died, and eight others were injured when the roof of an auto-parts factory in Ludhiana collapsed. The Police registered a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder under IPC section 304 against the factory owner and the contractor. Government announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each for the families of the deceased and free treatment for the injured.
08 April: Chintu (22), Pradeep (18), Brijpal Singh (45), Kumar Shanu (29) and Vedpal (45) were charred to death, and four others were injured after huge explosion in a firecracker godown in Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnor district. Police booked the owner of the godown under IPC sections 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others), 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), and under sections 9 and 13 of Explosion Act.
09 April: Mukhtiyar Singh and Dhana Singh died, and five others were injured after molten material fell on them due to a furnace blast at Timco Steel factory in the Himachal Pradesh’s Solan district.
12 April: Shravan Mahanto (25), Babalkumar Singh (19), Dayanand Mahanto (20) and Mukeshkumar Mahanto were burnt to death, and ten others were injured after a boiler burst at a chemical factory manufacturing sodium silicate near Pipardi village in Gujarat’s Morbi district.
22 April: Goverdhan Bheel (25) died after falling into a boiler of a rice mill in Rajasthan’s Bundi city.
30 April: Murad Ali died, and two others were injured after an oxygen cylinder exploded during refilling at Kanpur’s Panki gas plant.
Sanitation
05 April: Dharmendra Singh (32) and Vivek Pangade (26) died of asphyxiation, and another became critical after inhaling toxic gas while cleaning a septic tank at Vedach village in Gujarat’s Bharuch district.
15 April: P Shankar and Bishnu Nayak were asphyxiated to death, and another became critical after being trapped while cleaning a sewerage tank at CDA Sector-10 in Cuttack city. No proper safety equipment had been provided to the deceased workers.
Mining
07 April: T Shankeraiah and Katham Narsaiah died after the roof of a Kakatiya Khani coal mine at Singareni Collieries collapsed on them. Union leaders allege that a complaint was raised to the concerned officials a month ago about the weak condition of the roof but no action was taken.
The families of the deceased are eligible for Rs. 25 lakhs compensation each.
Other
07 April: Akash (30), Mahadeva (35), Vishakantha (35) and Vijaya Singh (30) were electrocuted to death, and two sustained injuries while putting up a pandal for the inauguration of a residential complex outside Bengaluru. They were all contract labourers employed by a private contractor. Police booked a case against the contractor for causing death due to negligence.
