Karnataka: Government to extend free bus passes scheme to all construction workers
14 December, 2021: The Karnataka labour department has decided to issue free bus passes to all construction workers across the state under the ‘Sahayahasta’ scheme. Earlier, the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC), in collaboration with the Building and Construction Workers Welfare Board, had issued Sahayahasta bus passes to only those construction workers who were registered with the board.
Kerala: Women and Child Development department announces incentives of Rs. 25,000 for reporting child labour
13 December, 2021: Rising unemployment and inflation has forced families to push their younger ones in the labour force across the country. To keep a check on the situation Women and Child Development department of Kerala state has announced an award of Rs.25,000 to encourage people to report instances of child labour. Instances of child labour can be reported to the the district Women and Child Development officer or the child protection officer at the district levels.
Punjab: Government to regularize contract safai karmacharis
9 December, 2021: The Punjab government has approved the regularisation of services of 4,587 safai karamcharis and sewer men who have been working on contractual basis with the municipal department for several years. The decision comes after prolonged struggle of contract safai karmcharis.
