Sanitation

On 19 Sept., Rambhai Lalani (25) died at the Civil Hospital, Rajkot after 9 days of treatment. Lalani was brought to the hospital after inhaling toxic gases when he got down to clean a sewer behind Modern School in Bhagwatipara, Rajkot on 10 September 2020. Manga Solanki, his contractor has been booked by the police for not providing him any safety equipment. 

Manufacturing

On 29 Sept., Shiv Kumar (40) was killed due to an explosion in the dye machine he was operating at an automobile factory in Phase 8, Focal Point, Ludhiana. No case against the employers has been registered although the Police have helped the kin of the worker and the employers reach a ‘compromise’ according to the media reports.

On 16 Sept., Rahul Yadav (21) died after his clothes got caught in the machine he was working on leading to choking and injuries at Surya Ferrous in Wardha, Maharashtra.

On 14 Sept., Misbah a 5-year old child died while 19 other got grievously injured after a 1 ton boiler, which took off from a dairy plant propelled by a massive blast in it, landed in a dense residential colony in UP’s Hapur district. An FIR under section 287 (whoever does, with any machinery, any act so rashly or negligently as to endanger human life), 338 (whoever causes grievous hurt to any person by doing any act so rashly or negligently as to endanger human life), 304 A (causing death by negligence), and 427 (mischief causing damage) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against Vineet Sharma, the owner of the dairy plant.

On 7 Sept., Parsu Sakal Dev Mandal (32) died after cemented slabs from the roof of the textile factory fell on him. He was employed as an operator in Jindal Textile at Industrial Area-A, Ludhiana. The police have registered a case under Section 304-A of Indian Penal Code against the employers.

On 5 Sept., Khushboo (13), a minor was killed of choking after her dupatta got caught in a machine while working at the Rishi Enterprises Company, Phase 4, Ludhiana. The Police have registered a case against the owners under Section 304-A of Indian Penal Code, death by negligence, however no sections of the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act were included in the FIR.

On 1 Sept., Sajabhai Gamar (29) was killed of electrocution at Sri Sakambari Textile factory in Thane, Maharashtra. The machine he was working on had a power leak which led to his death. A case has been registered against Sadaram Kabi, owner of the factory for causing death due to negligence.

Construction

On 29 Sept., Amit Kumar Mahto(38) was killed of electrocution at NKR engineering work in phase 4 of Vatva GIDC, Ahmedabad, Gujarat when he tried to wipe sweat from his face while using the welding machine. He was not provided with any safety equipment to deter electric shocks.

On 21 Sept., 2 migrant workers – Periyannan from Tamil Nadu and D Naga from Karnataka were killed due to an explosion at a quarry in Malayattoor, Ernakulam, Kerala. The place was being used for storing explosives without any proper safety measures in place.
